This past week here in the Northwest the climate and environment has taken a turn toward Spring. The birds have begun their chirping, the grass is so lush and green around here and I am feeling blessed by this glorious season of new birth. The trees are budding, but nothing is blooming on our property, so I decided to create my own handmade spring blossom tree.
I wanted to create a spring tree that could span all of the season not just for Easter. This Spring blossom tree was so quick and easy! To be able to head out and cut off some scruffy brown branches and transform them into a fresh arrangement for my home was really simple, and you can do the same! I will show you how easy this project is.
Using natural elements found in your back yard, and some inexpensive craft items, you can create a pretty handmade spring blossom tree. This will only take you about 1 hour total and no more than $10.00!
Here is what you will need.
Supplies for a handmade spring blossom tree
- Sticks/branches from your yard. I had a bush that needed to be pruned back so I just used those. I liked the curvy shape of the branches from my bush and I could envision them in white. If you don’t have any branches in your yard, maybe you have a neighbor that does, or you can do a bit of exploring to find some.
- 1 can of flat white spray paint
- Vase of your choice
- Artificial silk Spring blossoms sprigs from any craft store. I used 1 sprig of Dogwood blossoms and 1 sprig of green berries (both found at Walmart)
- Scissors
- Glue sticks and hot glue gun
- Nest and 3 eggs
How To Make A Handmade Spring Blossom Tree
1. Cut and gather branches from any bush you have. Once I cut my branches, I gathered them in my hand till I got what I thought was the right amount for my vase.
2. Spread out branches and lay on a tarp and spray paint one side. Let dry about 10 minutes, then turn over and spray the other side. I didn’t worry about them being perfectly covered in white. There were some branches with brown kind of showing through, but they appear “white”, and that was good enough!
3. Place branches in your vase the way you want them. I went for free form, wild and artistic here. I didn’t arrange them at all, but just put them in. You can do this just the way you want!
4. With scissors, cut flower blossoms off of sprig at the plastic part that attaches it. I just cut each flower, leaf and berry cluster as I went. I cut and glued.
5. Start gluing flowers, berries, and leaves in random places on your Spring blossom tree. Place the glue on the flower and then attach so you don’t have dripping hot glue. In some places I clustered a few flowers together, other places I just had one by itself. Some places I add the green berries and leaves.
This whole blossom tree was meant to be free form, nothing perfect or planned out. I didn’t worry about this being botanically correct either. I just wanted a pretty springy wild looking bouquet to celebrate Spring. So just have fun, and add flowers where ever you want. You can add colored ones. I tried some pink and purple, but I seemed to just like the white.
6. I know it shows the nest for #6 photo above, but I actually placed my nest in first, so I would know where it was going to perch, then added my blossoms. My nest was a real one from our property, and it even had some little feathers in it. But you can buy a nest from the craft store and place in your spring blossom tree. I didn’t glue it in place, because I wanted to be able to remove it later. Then lay in your few eggs. I had mine from my craft supply box.
That is all! So easy, beautiful, fresh. I am really enjoying this spring blossom tree in a corner of my home. It makes me smile every time I walk by it!
